We expected to get a decent sleep but a pair of rare Olingo had a party on our metal roof at 1am. Apparently there is a nice fig tree right by our room and they were fighting over the fresh fruit. Dave managed to get a glimpse of cute paws and fluffy tail through the glass roof of the balcony. Raoul was impressed and we feel blessed to have experienced the Olingo, but 1am was not a time we’d prefer.

We met Raoul again at 0830 for our morning birding tour. We were matched up with a group of Brits who were hard core birders. They were very excited. We are not really bird people but there are some amazingly colourful ones here.

Raoul identified what seemed like hundreds of different birds: we were able to photograph a few of them.

Most of these birds are called local endemics: they are found only in Costa Rica and Panama, as the Talamanca mountain range travels down the length of CR and into northern Panama.

We finished the day with a hot tub with a great garden view.

Tomorrow we drive back up north to our next lodge in Selva Reserve. We may or may not have internet access so we may not be able to update for a few days.
