Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day has been celebrated in Iceland since 1934 (on the 2nd Sunday in May).

This is the bag that Dave is using for his lunch. I think it came from a shop at Reitmans.

We took a very long drive today (2.5 hours) east to see the Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon – a freshwater lagoon full of icebergs calved off the Vatnajokull glacier.

Tomb Raider & Die Another Day were filmed here. We can only imagine how amazed the various scene scouts are for Iceland. It’s so incredibly adaptable! No wonder so many movies are filmed here!

Our weather here has been….diverse. We’ve had sleet, rain and sun. I guess that’s par for the course on an island with ocean, glaciers and ice affecting the weather. In one day we’ve had snow and clear blue skies!

Despite the weather, this is awesome!
Not very big but really heavy!

Diamond Beach is on the other side of the bridge, where the icebergs end up in the ocean.

Bird Berg.
Heart of ice!!!
The ice surged with the waves. Very cool!

From there we headed back to Vik with a stop in the moss-covered rock fields. Very cool geological history here.

Lava rock + moss = very cool fields.

Many square km of fields. All so very amazing.

Dinner will be pasta with halloumi cheese and a nice bottle of Italian wine.
