Today is our 25th wedding anniversary. We’ve had some amazing anniversary trips over the years and when we were talking about this trip we agreed we needed to go “somewhere good”. Not that our other trips weren’t great, but this one needed to be extra special. Madagascar is about as far away from Vancouver as you can get. The antipode of Vancouver is somewhere south of us by a lot, but from a land point of view we are pretty much as far away from home as we can be. This is the only place in the world where we can see lemurs in the wild – and only one of three countries where baobab trees grow (the others being South Africa and Australia). Pretty cool.

We often say at the end of our trips that we need a vacation to relax from our adventures. So this year we decided to add a few days at the beach. Nosy Be is a tropical paradise and different from the other parts of Madagascar. Sounded good to us. It is crazy hot and humid here, so not totally relaxing, but we are managing!

Anjiamarango Resort is right on the beach at almost the northern most end of the island. It’s a beautiful property that is a little quirky. All the rooms are bungalow style with one row right on the beach and another up a small hill (up about 30 stairs). Again, there are no panes in the windows, just wooden louvres. So the sounds of the ocean waves, the crickets and the (&%$#@) village rooster at 0400 come right through the open windows. Dave is lulled to sleep by the waves, while Kris is making good use of her airplane ear plugs.

#24, our bungalow.

Each day we had a different design on our bed.

We didn’t have an activity booked today, so this morning we took a walk down the beach to take in the scenes.

We relaxed by the pool most of the afternoon and had a nice dinner tonight. On past anniversaries, we’ve had some good and some average meals in some amazingly exotic locations. We plan to continue that in future years. Considering the fairly extensive menu at this hotel, we have not been overly impressed by the food. Tonight was probably the best we have had in our four days here.

All in all a great way to enjoy each other’s company and celebrate a marriage milestone. ❤️ ❤️

We’re trying to decide where to go for our 30th, 40th, 50th…
