The largest open-air street market in the Cotswolds takes place in Moreton-on-Marsh on Tuesdays.  It can get crazy busy and really crowded so we chose to avoid it!

However, unbeknownst to us, the first Saturday of September is the Moreton agricultural show and horse competitions. Lots of folks and difficult to find parking, so we took a quick peek and found a detour around town.

At the falconry center just outside of Moreton, we watched two of their bird shows. Chris and Carrie showed off a Lanner falcon, a common buzzard, and an Indian turkey vulture. Then Chris and Chloe demonstrated flying ability and hunting skills of a Lagger falcon, a Kenyan eagle owl and a sea eagle.

Roz the Lanner falcon.
Ivy, the common Buzzard
Maggie the Turkey vulture. We see these at home just never this close!
Simone is a year old and was quite vocal.
We could feel the wind but hear nothing as she flew over our heads
Donald is a white tailed Sea eagle. He’s learning how to do shows and was a little stubborn. He’s a year old and already 3.6kg.

The center does both rescue and release. They have successfully bred a few rare and endangered birds. They have many different species in their aviaries; each are well kept have a lot of space. Birds only fly when they have to so sitting around getting fed isn’t a bad deal at all.

We then went for a tasty lunch at the Cotswolds Barn. We have been surprised at the lack of outdoor cats in these tiny towns. We finally found one!

The Tysoe windmill was built in the early 18th C. The 12-sided tower is 180m tall.

The mill operated until 1915 when it was struck by lightning.

The views on top of the hill were pretty amazing.

Tomorrow we pack up and make our way home.
