Today we packed up in Cortina drove down to Venice. Dropping the car off was far easier than we thought it might be, besides trying to find a gas station that would take my Canadian credit card. There is a bridge that connects Venice to the mainland. We drove it three times. Once to find where we were going and once back to get gas and finally back to drop the car. Painless but frustrating.

It is 33 degrees or so here and humid. Draining is a word I'd use for the weather. Awesome, beautiful city but darn hot right now. Lunch was just down the block right on the canal.

View across from lunch.

After lunch we wandered around a bit just to experience Venice. We have a 3 day Vaporetto pass, basically a bus pass which allows unlimited trips around Venice, Murano and Burano. Perfect for our needs.

The bridge just by our hotel spanning the Cannereggio Canal – not the Grand Canal, but an offshoot.

The Rialto Bridge

The Scalzi bridge over the Grand Canal.

Canals are busy places indeed. I wouldn't want to be a captain here. Lots of things to keep an eye out for.

Dinner was a nice walk to another canal-side restaurant and Eric had yet more gf pasta.

Sunset shot just before dinner.

Tomorrow we explore Venice more properly. St Mark's, more canals and the Doge's Palace.
