Leaving Matane this morning, we drove about an hour along the shore of the St Lawrence River.  Interspersed between the tiny, cute towns are large cattle farms with impressive grain silos. We’re not sure if they hold wheat for export or corn sileage to feed the local dairy cows.

We stopped in Sainte Anne des Monts for lunch and a chocolate experience at Couleur Chocolat before heading inland once again into Gaspesie National Park. We will spend the next three days hiking and adventuring in the park.

Our accommodation, Le Gite du Mont Albert, is a cute lodge in the middle of the national park.

Everyone has told us that moose sightings usually happen early in the morning or late into the evening. So, we woke up at 5am to hike the Mont Ernest-Laforce trail looking for them.

Moose like to forage in this birch and fir forest and eat aquatic plants from lakes and ponds.

Baby (still about the size of an adult cow!). She was skittish and didn’t stick around too long for photos

We explored Lac Paul hoping for more moose, but they were hiding again.

After a nice few days in the forest we now head off to Gaspe on the coast.

  1. So glad that you got to see your Moose! They look so ungainly and can move so swiftly.
